Shaunavon Mayor, Grant Greenslade, was one of many representatives from towns and cities across the province that attended the 114th Annual SUMA Convention in Saskatoon last week.

He says SUMA is great to attend because it gives them the opportunity to network with other community leaders.

One of the announcements at the Convention, by Premier Scott Moe, was that the Saskatchewan government will increase funding for the province's cities and towns next fiscal year.

Greenslade says that's good news for Shaunavon and area. "We were happy to see that the Premier, Scott Moe, had announced the increase, I think of 4%, for funding coming for the municipalities. It's great to see an increase. We'll be looking at some capital projects this year, one of them will be our UV Disinfection System for our wells."

Greenslade added that the Town of Shaunavon put forward a resolution to be voted on at the Convention that all members voluntarily contribute a minimum of two dollars per capita per year to help maintain STARS Air Ambulance. He said that he was very surprised, and shocked, that the resolution was defeated.

Mayor Greenslade hopes that the resolution will be submitted again in the future and be passed.
