The community of Shaunavon is one step closer to opening its Splash Park.

After a community wide vote on the location, the Perk Up Our Parks committee announced on Tuesday that the new structure will be at the Jubilee Park.

The pad for the structure will measure 60 feet by 65 feet, and Perk Up Our Parks Chairman,  Kyle Bennett, explained some of the items it will include saying, "We wanted to honor everybody that helped, especially with the badger. The Braydon Coburn Hockey School badger number 55 on him there. Actually the middle pole there is a round bale, ya, a little tractor..it's kind of honoring our Boomtown Cup and local agriculture, and Surge donated $30,000, so we honored them with a pump jack with their name on it."

Bennett said the group has raised, with fundraisers and local sponsors, about $330,000 of the $340,000 price tag, so more fundraisers are in the works.

When constructed, the Splash Park will be free of charge and open to the public.

Construction is expected to take place in late August or early September.
