The Town of Shaunavon has finalized its budget for the year.

Due to recent property re-evaluations, which are conducted every couple of years by The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency, there were increases in property assessments in the community.

The new uniform mill rate is 8.7, compared to 11 last year, however that doesn't mean property owners will see a decrease in their taxes.

Under the Budget, some property owners will see their tax bills increase, while others will see a small decrease.

Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Shaunavon, Tara Fritz, says, "The Town of Shaunavon brings on about $1.8 million through tax revenue. But, we do have about $4.1 million in expenses."

The Budget includes plans for a number of large initiatives, including $200,000 for a paving project as well as upgrades to the Town's SCADA System, which includes alerts, security, and controls to the Town's water system.

Plans are also in the works to upgrade Railway Street and to improve other areas that have been prone to pot hole and mud issues.

Fritz adds that the Town was hit hard by the provincial government's decision to eliminate Sask Energy's payment to municipalities and will see that change cost them about $55,000 a year.
