A special air quality statement has been issued by Environment Canada for much of Saskatchewan.

Smoke from forest fires has spread into western Saskatchewan and is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility.

Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Pollution can aggravate diseases, leading to increased medication use, doctor and emergency room visits, and hospital visits.

More information can be found here on how to reduce health risk and personal contribution to pollution levels, as well as for current and forecast Air Quality Health Index values.

Smoky conditions are expected to improve tomorrow morning after a cold front passes through the region.

Here is the complete list of areas that have been given an advisory.
