A southwest Saskatchewan resident travelled to Lethbridge this past weekend to participate in the Canadian Livestock Auctioneering Championship.

Tyler Cronkhite, who resides in Maple Creek, was unable to crack the top ten at the competition but noted the experience was a memorable one.

"The experience was great," Cronkhite said. "Being able to meet new people that came to the auctioneering convention and seeing how they run their livestock markets, it was just a really good experience."

Although Cronkhite didn't finish where he wanted to, he believes the experience outweighed that.

"We got to listen to 30 of the best auctioneers from across Canada," he said. "You take a little bit from everybody and try to improve and hone your skills."

The manager of the Cowtown Livestock Exchange in Maple Creek qualified for the national championships by winning the ManSask Auctioneering Competition held in Gladstone, Manitoba, at the end of April.

Cronkhite was also recently named the new vice-president of Livestock Marketers of Saskatchewan earlier this month.
