A trio of well-known Swift Current residents lent a helping hand to the SPCA late last week.

Swift Current City Councillor Ron Toles, Smart Flowers owner Poppy Parsons, and Living Sky Casino's General Manager Trevor Marion combined to raise around $2,500 to be freed from the celebrity dog pound.

Teresa Cole, development officer with the Swift Current SPCA, said they were thrilled with the jail and bail event as they use it as a kickoff for their annual appeal which is $19 for '19.

"We were really pleased with how the day went," she said. "It was our second year to do the celebrity dog pound, which is really just a kickoff for us for our annual appeal, and this year it's the $19 in '19 campaign we're just getting started."

According to Cole, they chose which celebrities get impounded year-by-year.

"We just kind of think of folks from the community each year that might be interested, people that we know are behind us in terms of our cause, or are pet owners themselves, and make the contacts and these folks were happy to help out," she said.

The animal shelter is hoping to raise $13,000 in the next eight weeks which will help with operation costs.

"Now we only got a little over $10,000 to raise," Cole said accounting for the money raised from the celebrity dog pound event.
