The legal wheels are in motion as the Amalgamated Transit Union put forward their argument for why the province should not be allowed to shut down STC at the end of the month.

Union lawyers are suggesting the shutdown be stopped based on the fact they believe that winding down the bus company violates the Crown Protection Ownership Act that protects from the sale or privatization of Crown companies. They also suggest that it violates the Canadian labour that says there must be advance notice.

The provincial government argues this isn't a sale of a Crown, it a closure and they did give advance notice, two months ago with the provincial budget.

The judge hearing the case has reserved her decision but has promised a timely process, knowing that the end is near for the Crown bus company.
