It almost wasn't a reality this year, but the Terry Fox Run did happen in Swift Current, and $5,105 was raised.

On a somewhat-rainy Sunday 33 people made it out for the run starting at Riverside Park, marking the 36th year of the event taking place in town.

"Basically I heard the news article online saying there wasn't a coordinator, and if they didn't find anyone the run wouldn't happen," said Kim Targerson, who was one of five organizers. "So I had contacted the Terry Fox Organization and just said that I'd help, but by the time that I had contacted Angela a few other people had stepped up as well, so we all just played different roles."

"It was excellent," Targerson said. "It was really nice to see adults in the community and then also younger people stepping up. I know that I had been a part of the Terry Fox run at the school before, and David Camarador, who was one of the students who stepped up to help, he's running it this year at the school. So it's really neat to see school and community come together as well."

The routes differed, as the cross-country team from Swift Current Comprehensive High School did a 5K, and of the others did a 10K.

"The rain stopped around 2 p.m., which was when we began, and it started to rain a little bit near the end," Targerson added. "But it was actually a fairly nice day to go for a run. It wasn't too wet for anyone. There were lots of kids still out, some people biking, a couple people who brought their dogs and whatnot, so it was still good enough to go for a run or a walk for them."

Angela LaFontaine, Shantal Dyck, and Sarbjit Gill joined Targerson and Camarador stepping up as organizers, while Amanda Thoreson and Zach Elliot were instrumental as volunteers.
