Southwest Saskatchewan's employment rates made a significant jump during the month of November helping cement the region as one of the tops in the nation.

According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate for the Swift Current and Moose Jaw area fell to 3.3 per cent, a decrease of 0.1 from November 2016.

The province's overall unemployment rates continue to strengthen in year-over-year comparison to 5.4 per cent - a 0.7 per cent decrease.

Meanwhile, Canada's unemployment rates reached an all-time low during the past decade falling to 5.6 per cent down from last year's 6.3 per cent.

The southwest region climbed into third place in Canada for its unemployment rate - an improvement of two spots in a month's time, trailing only Chaudière-Appalaches, Qué. (2.0 per cent) and Interlake, Man. (2.9 per cent).

The area is composed of approximately 81,500 people representing a decrease of 400 since this time last year. Of the 51,800 in the labour force (3,300 lower than a year ago), 50,100 are working and 1,700 are listed as unemployed.

In a month-over-month comparison, the Swift Current and Moose Jaw area improved its employment rate by six percentage points since October's figures were released.
