On August 10th from 1:00-4:30pm the Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards will be holding their first in city family event.

Executive Director with the Watershed Stewards Kevin Steinley provides details about the event.

"On August 10th the Swift Current Creek Watershed Stewards are hosting an event for families to come out to Elmwood Park and also to walk along the creek along the pathway to learn more about identifying plants along the creek and especially to identify invasive weeds that have moved in to the city and along the creek."

This is the first time that the group has held an event like this in the city as most of their work in the past has been dealing with helping farmers and ranchers to identify, manage and eradicate weeds.

Steinley says the event is important in order to make the community more aware.

"The ability for them to identify invasive weeds as they are going about their business or just taking a walk along the pathway and the ability to notice these invasive weeds will help us to eradicate them."

Due to COVID and limited spots, pre-registration is required for the event and can be done by calling 306-770-4607 or by emailing kevin.sccws@gmail.com

Participants are asked to bring hand sanitizer, masks, sunscreen, protective clothing and good walking shoes.
