As an emergency arose for a small village near Swift Current, the bigger centre came to the aid of the community.

On February 12, water was shut off to the east side of Waldeck, and was restored on February 13.

Mitch Minken, general manager of infrastructure and operations with the City of Swift Current, explained that a request was made by the Village of Waldeck for assistance in the repairs.

"A request was made to us to provide some assistance, and we went and provided some assistance and were able to get some valves operating, and then assist in finding where the leak was so they could get it repaired."

The help provided by the city was at no cost, something that Minken said was a neighbourly thing to do.

"We endeavour to help our neighbours wherever we can when they're struggling, so it was a great example of some good municipal cooperation."

After the repairs were done, a boil water advisory was declared as the water was tested for contaminants which may have entered into the water system as a result of the repairs. Yesterday that advisory was called off.

Minken said that the cost to the city would be minimal as city workers were on site only for a couple of hours.
