Swift Current residents now have a new method to recycle materials to help benefit the environment.

Triways recently released a new program to take a wide range of recyclables and make use of its components.

The program is called single-stream recycling and requires minimal sorting from users, who can put items such as paper, plastic, cardboard, aluminum and tin in the bins.

Noel Cattell, the general manager at Triways Swift Current, explained how the items being directed to them would help the environment.

“It’s always good when something can be done about recycling and the different materials that can be accepted. Anything that we can stop from going into the City landfill is a good positive note.”

She went on to describe where the materials go once being collected by Triways.

“What we do is we collect it and we weigh it at the landfill, and then all the material are bailed here at the Swift Current [Triways] facility here on Railway [Street] and we ship it to Crown Shred & Recycling in Regina where it is sorted and sold to market.”

The price to join the program is $149 plus GST per year for Swift Current residents.

Since launching, she said that there has been quite a lot of early adopters.

“We’re really excited to finally be able to offer single-stream to Swift Current, and since the launch on May 20, we’ve been overwhelmed by all the positive responses that we’ve received so far.”

“The residents seem to be very excited to have the option of this new program.”
