An accomplished writer was in Swift Current yesterday, hosting a writing workshop for aspiring writers.

Madona Hamil, an established writer and producer, was at the Swift Current Library, outlining the methods she uses when writing.

The presentation was one of the final events of Saskatchewan Library Week which came to a close yesterday.

Andrea McCrimmon, manager of the Swift Current Library, said that she was thankful that the Saskatchewan Library Association provided funding for the event, as she thought it was a good opportunity for local writers.

"It's a really wonderful opportunity for all the talented people in our community to get together and hone their writing skills, Madona Hamil is a wonderful Saskatchewan author, playwright, and a former CBC producer, so she has a wealth of knowledge and she's also very engaging, so we're just thrilled to be able to offer these types of programs for our community."

McCrimmon also commented on the writing community in Swift Current, saying that it was wonderful.

"It's not just at the library, it's all around town, the Lyric Theatre hosts Write Out Loud, which is an author reading series, and then, of course, the Prairie Quills are a wonderful community writing group and they have a lot of talent in there, and then the library of course hosts authors regularly, we just love to help nurture our communities talent."

Another member of the Swift Current writing community was also at the library later the same day, Jessica Williams, who was doing a public reading of her children's book Mama's Cloud.
