The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation announced a new president this past weekend and it's a Swift Current resident taking over the reins.

Clark Schultz was elected to the position by acclamation on Saturday during the 90th Annual SWF Convention in Moose Jaw.

Schultz has spent eight of the previous nine years on the board of directors for the non-profit organization and decided to take a turn at the wheel.

"I've been really enjoying, believing what the organization does," he said. "So I decided I wanted to take a run at being the next president and I was successful with that."

One thing Schultz wants to accomplish while in the seat is to travel to each of the six different wildlife regions in the province to allow each area to be heard. Other than that it will be business as usual for the SWF moving forward with a variety of projects.

"We have several programs and things on the go already," he said. "Obviously the same concern that most organizations have is to try and continue to grow our membership, try to get younger people involved. We just introduced a new program to try and get more women involved as far as the outdoor community goes... We want to make sure their concerns and dreams are looked at... We're working on the renovations at the Fish Culture Station so that's something we want to continue to work on. We've set a goal of 100,000 acres by the time we turn 100 years old, that's something we want to continue to work on. So there are several ongoing programs already that we just want to keep heading in the right direction."

Schultz added that the president's role might take some time away from helping out with the Swift Current Wildlife Federation going forward, but he wants to see the trout pond completed.

"I'm still quite involved, I'm kind of a co-chair of our fundraising committee," he said. "I'm going to continue to help with the fundraiser. Also, I've been one of our committee members working on our trout pond and I want to see that through. So I will have a little less to focus on the local stuff, but we have a great club here locally."

Schultz becomes the fifth man from Swift Current to hold the president title. C.W. Shaner did from 1955 to 1956, Gorge Hooey from 1966 to 1967, Don Hanna from 1974 to 1975, and most recently Greg Illerbrun from 1994 to 1995.
