The City of Swift Current will be without a general manager of planning and growth development for the foreseeable future.

Michael Ruus' last day with the City was yesterday and he took some time after city council to reflect on the past six years he's worked for the municipality.

"I've really enjoyed my time here, I can't speak highly enough about this community," he said. "I'm really excited to see what's to come in Swift Current, the next time I come to visit, I expect to see lots of projects on the go."

His final report to council was the City's official community plan which has been in development since 2015 and was shown at city council last night.

"I'm really pleased that our team has been able to get so many of these projects completed," he said. "We've got a fantastic group within administration and also council, but it's not just city administration and council, it's the entire community that puts effort into these documents.

"We had hundreds of stakeholders provide input into the official community plan, the downtown master plan, and there is still input being put into the rec, park, and culture plan. That's going to be the legacy that all of us today leave for future generations and for the betterment of this community."

Ruus will be moving back to the Maritimes, where he attended school, and taking a job with the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.

"I had an opportunity come up to head back out to the east coast and live the lifestyle," he said. "I'm excited for a new challenge, it will be a pretty steep learning curve. It's definitely a bittersweet moment to be leaving so many great colleagues, friends, and family in Swift Current."

The City of Swift Current has been advertising for the vacant position on SaskJobs.ca for about two weeks now.
