The schedule for the Swift Current hosted Hockey Day in Canada was released at the iPlex in the city yesterday.

The city will host a day-long national broadcast of Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada on Saturday February 9.

The community of Shaunavon hosted the event back in 2004, and two Shaunavon natives with deep roots in hockey, JJ and Luke Hunter, were present at yesterday's schedule announcement.

JJ spoke about the impact of hockey on his life saying "I remember as a kid playing minor hockey in Shaunavon, and having the Swift Current Broncos come down and run one of our practices. Those experiences, as a child at that time, spurred me on to want to play hockey and play in the Western Hockey League and do other things with my life."

Luke added, "It's hard to put a price tag on the valuable lessons that hockey had on us as well, and learning how to work in a team environment and work collectively together, and as a group and as a unit and putting self aside and working towards a bigger goal for the betterment of everyone. Those life lessons that hockey taught us, I think, will go on for the rest of our lives as things that we'll cherish."

The main event in Swift Current on February 9 will be a WHL game between the Broncos and the Saskatoon Blades, with Don Cherry and Ron McLean hosting Coach's Corner live from the arena.
