The Assiniboia town council has hit the ground running in 2019.

Mayor Bob Himbeault, said that something that was announced last year is continuing to progress.

"We had ongoing meetings with the Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Stewardship Board and good news is they were approved the funds to clean up the abandoned tire site. We're just waiting to hear the agreement is done with the Abandoned Tire pile in Assiniboiacontractor that's supposed to be coming and doing that. We're anticipating that should be happening pretty soon."

There have also been talks in the town about revitalizing their downtown, wanting to make it look as picturesque as possible. Assiniboia Council members and their local Chamber are teaming up to host meetings to hear what the public would like to see and what they could do to get there.

"Two of my councillors with the chamber are spearheading a meeting to start looking at mainstreet and get some different options on revitalizing and changing the appearance of main street. This is the first meeting of many to get some ideas of how businesses, the community and our citizens would like to see mainstreet look. Before highways decide they're going to repave it or something like that, we want to make sure its going to look the way we want it to look. This is the first step."

And that's not all. There are still a number of other projects Assiniboia looks to tackle this year

"Public works utilities has brought forward and identified some major issues on some of our pumps. We definitely want to focus on them, either pull them and get them repaired, or maybe a complete replacement. We've got to dig deeper into that at all our different sites. We've got our major pumping station at Willows Den, we want to do some work there."

Himbeault said at their most previous council meeting they also heard their monthly RCMP report, and it featured their first cannabis act charge.
