A big showing in the Small Town Showdown means the Town of Ponteix is $22,000 closer to building a new pool.

On July 20, a couple hundred people attended the Small Town Showdown barbecue in Ponteix helping to raise over $20,000.

"It was nice to see so many people come out to the barbecue, voting online and donating at the hot dog sale," Ponteix Mayor David Scully said. "It's quite a lot to raise $20,000 in an afternoon."

The community of approximately 600 people will put their third-place prize money $2,000 towards a pool, they have been saving for over a year.

Scully noted the town now has approximately $150,000 funds saved, with the addition of the $22,000 from the Small Town Showdown contest.

The cost of the new pool is in the neighbourhood of $700,000.
