Parliament reconvenes September 17, and Cypress Hills-Grassland MP David Anderson expects some hot topics now to be front and centre in Ottawa.

Anderson said the United States and Mexico have taken the reigns in NAFTA negotiations, which is one thing he expects to be "top of the agenda."

"It sounds like Mexico and the US are pretty close to a conclusion; they've left us off to the sideline, we need to get that done," Anderson said, adding they "need to get our finances under control in this country, and [the Conservatives will] certainly try to hold this government accountable for their excessive spending that they're doing."

But NAFTA isn't the only trade agreement in the news, as Anderson wants Canada to ratify the Trans-Pacific Partnership sooner than later.

"We need to talk about getting the TPP ratified; three countries have already ratified it, we need six before it comes into effect. There's no reason why Canada can't be one of those first six."
