After ten weeks of construction, the overhead lighting project on the Trans-Canada Highway through the City of Swift Current has been completed.

The project, which started in mid-July, was completed in September and was jointly-funded with the Government of Saskatchewan providing $600,000 and the City of Swift Current contributing the labour and equipment required to complete the project.

One hundred seventy-two LED streetlights have been installed between Highway 4 (Memorial Drive) and 17th Avenue West, with an additional 16 lights being added at the Transport City intersection.

"We're very grateful to our provincial government for working with us to create a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians on our highway corridor," Swift Current Mayor Denis Perrault said.

The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure stated in a release they "will continue to consider additional safety improvements to help reduce the number of pedestrian incidents."
