Following a three day search, the general area of a water line leak has been discovered in Gull Lake, allowing normal water functions to soon return to most of the town.

On Friday, the town of Gull Lake became aware that they were losing more water than their water treatment plant was producing, causing their water reservoirs to dip to low levels.

A boil water advisory was issued soon after.

According to Gull Lake Mayor Blake Campbell, the general area of that broken pipe was blocked off, allowing for the area to be isolated and regular water use to return to most of the town.

"There was a water problem this morning with water coming out of a manhole, and when we investigated that, we found that actually helped find our leak. We don't know exactly where the leak is, but we've isolated the area and we're able to contain it."

Campbell said that two businesses will not have regular water use, but the rest of the town should be back to normal.

According to him, the town lost an estimated 700,000 litres of water due to the leak.

At one point during the search for the leak, the town issued a release that they were experiencing sewer flow restrictions. Upon the location of the leak, the two issues seem to be related and after the isolation of the leak, it appears that sewer use will return to normal.

It is not known by Campbell when repairs to the line will commence.

He said that the boil water advisory is expected to last for the remainder of this week and possibly into the next, depending on water test results.
