When you have light snow and strong wind gusts, it's not a shocker that whiteout conditions can occur.

Today in Swift Current about two to four centimetres of snow is falling and the wind is coming from the northwest. This can make things interesting on the roads.

Like much of Saskatchewan, the Highway Hotline lists highways around Swift Current and the southwest as having winter conditions.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Dan Fulton said the reason for the weather is a low-pressure system.

"There's a little low-pressure system moving through the southwest corner of the province. That spreads snow throughout the southwest, including the Swift Current area, and that's pretty much what you'll see today - snow and some blowing snow with some pretty gusty winds there. Looking at northwest winds gusting to around 60 in the area, so visibility is not so great on the highways for sure."

Fulton said that the wind and snow should clear out tonight.

"Just take care on the roads today," Fulton added. "Local whiteouts are possible on the roads in areas that are prone to it."
