The Swift Current 57s will be able to continue playing in Swift Current under a renewed contract.

During last night's city council meeting, the matter of the contract was brought forward for discussion and approval. Details in this updated set of terms were fairly unchanged, with the notable exception that the City of Swift Current would take over bathroom supplies and garbage bags.

Officially, the lease of Mitchell Field to the 57's has been renewed for a two-year term, starting this season.

This was brought to council for reading by Chrissy Carter, events and programs manager for the City of Swift Current, who reiterated the 57s goal to support the growth of baseball in Swift Current.

"Volunteers and fan support are essential to ensure the success of the Swift Current 57s Baseball Club in the Western Canadian Baseball League within the City," said Carter. "Maintaining the strong partnership between the City of Swift Current and the Swift Current 57s Baseball Club will encourage the continued involvement of the community, enthusiastic volunteers and fan base."

The contract affirmed that the leased facilities of Mitchell Field include the baseball diamond and field, the concession, souvenirs, admissions and beer booth, the washrooms, and bleachers, along with the lights and clubhouse.

The Swift Current 57s will start the season in Weyburn on May 25, before returning with the Beavers in tow for a turnaround home game in Swift Current on the 26.
