Swift Current can already see progress being made on the Chinook Pathway expansion by Highway Four and the Trans-Canada Highway.

The work being done has already made great strides, with the path now beginning to connect up underneath the Highway Four Swift Current Creek bridge. This pathway will enable users to safely cross that section of the road, before continuing underneath the Trans-Canada over to the Canadian Tire and Cypress Regional Hospital area.

Keegan Story, manager of environmental services for the City of Swift Current, was able to confirm the work was progressing smoothly after city councillor Pat Friesen inquired as to how things were going.

"There's a lot of 'dirt work' going on right now," said Story. "They've got a lot of the base work finished."

The work is being done by Southwest Paving Ltd, who won the contract for a total upset of $191,000.

Once completed, the City will be able to say the Chinook Pathway connects all of Swift Current, from the Windscape Kite Festival site, down and through the various parks and spaces, all the way to Adam Street.

"It's believed that the pathway won't be finished until sometime in the fall," said Story. "But the intent is that the paving and the initial work is done in time for the summer walks."
