The Melfort Mustangs are SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup champions. 

Aidyn Hutchinson scored twice and James Venne made 29 saves as the Mustangs topped the Flin Flon Bombers 4-1 in game six last night to win their fifth league title and first since 2016. Tye Evans and Clay Sleeva also scored for Melfort, who will represent the SJHL at the Centennial Cup in Oakville, Ontario, starting next week.

Warriors take 2-1 edge in WHL East Final

Denton Mateychuk had a goal and an assist and Jagger Firkus added two helpers as the Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Saskatoon Blades 3-1 to take a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Final. Atley Calvert and Martin Rysavy also scored for the Warriors, who host game four tonight.

Game four of the Western Conference Final is also tonight with the Portland Winterhawks hosting the Prince George Cougars. Portland leads the series 2-1.

Leafs and Preds stay alive, Jets and Isles eliminated

Matthew Knies scored the winner less than three minutes into overtime and the Toronto Maple Leafs staved off elimination with a 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins in NHL playoff action. The Bruins lead the series 3-2 with game six on Thursday in Toronto. 

Meanwhile, Roman Josi and Alexandre Carrier scored as the Nashville Predators stayed alive with a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks, who lead the series 3-2. Game six is in Nashville on Friday.

Elsewhere, the Winnipeg Jets became the first Canadian team to be eliminated from the playoffs with a 6-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, who won four straight games after dropping the opener and will face either Dallas or Vegas in the next round. And the Carolina Hurricanes also advanced with a 6-3 win over the New York Islanders. The Canes will face the Presidents’ Trophy winning New York Rangers in round two.

Tonight, the Edmonton Oilers have a chance to advance to round two with a win at home against the LA Kings, and the Dallas Stars host the Vegas Golden Knights with the series tied at 2-2.

Royals beat Blue Jays to split opening two games

Michael Massey hit a two-run homer as the Kansas City Royals picked up a 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays to snap a three-game losing streak. 

Chris Bassitt will start for the Jays against Seth Lugo in the rubber match this afternoon. 

Elks take Dublanko first overall in CFL Draft

The Edmonton Elks selected Cincinatti linebacker Joel Dublanko with the first-overall pick in Tuesday’s CFL Draft. 

The Saskatchewan Roughriders selected offensive lineman Kyle Hergel from Boston College with their first pick at third overall. The Riders also selected linebacker Nick Wiebe of the U of S Huskies (12th overall), WR Dhel Duncan-Busby (23rd), LB Melique Straker (32nd), OL Daniel Johnson (41st), WR D'Sean Mimbs from the Regina Rams (50th), WR Ajou Ajou (59th) and DB Richard Aduboffour with their final pick in the eighth round.
