A house fire in Gull Lake this morning caught the attention of community members, summoning the Gull Lake Fire Department to a bungalow on Proton Avenue.

The fire department arrived on the scene around 7:30 a.m., breaking down the door and smashing necessary windows.

Bentley Gibson, Gull Lake fire chief, was pleased to see that no one was injured during the fire and they were able to get the situation under control.

"We found there was heavy smoke, looking like it was coming from the basement area," he said.

Firefighters were packing up their equipment around 10:00 a.m. and damages from the fire were mainly confined to the basement.

"The owner wasn't at home, he'd been home prior but gone to work," added Gibson.

He notes that the fire and its cause are still under investigation.
