Several press releases over the last few weeks have said that the South Side Overpass is entering the critical phase. That started Thursday morning as the crews started pouring the east footing to the concrete wall. After this sets the retaining wall will be poured. This will then allow the major part of the construction to start, the demolition of the road surface and the re-pouring of it.

Public concerns have been raised as to why there have not been more workers and why has the work week not been 7 days all along? Graham Construction has stated there have not been enough local workers.

Graham construction has always hired a good portion of any work crew from the local labour market. Since the start of the project only 2 workers from Swift Current have applied and been hired. A third started just this week. Graham has had to recruit from outside of the market more aggressively than normal.

Now that the construction is critical they are moving in several workers to get the project completed. Without the extra support from Graham Construction the delay could have been lengthy. They have made a commitment to the city and are trying to meet it within the labour constraints they the market has.
