The MNP Swift Current Broncos Alumni Golf Tournament is spreading the wealth this year.

They are splitting their proceeds between the Broncos education fund and the Swift Current Safe Places Youth Certification Initiative.

Safe Places is connected to the work of former Broncos star Sheldon Kennedy and was a natural tie-in for the tournament.

MNP is paying to get their employees certified and wanted to make it easier for others to do the same.

"MNP's take on this was to be a community leader and get behind this initiative with its staff," said former Bronco and tournament co-chair Jeremy Rondeau. "Also looking to try through their efforts in the Broncos golf tournament support some of those efforts."

The tournament will also have a donation bin for Kidsport on hand at the Elmwood Golf Club.

As for the event itself they are making some changes. Alumni like Graham Black, Zac Mackay, Roy Schultz and others will be able to get through their round a little faster this year as the committee reduced the number of players per team.

"We've now cut that back to teams for four to keep the flow of the tournament going and keep it a little bit quicker," Rondeau said. "We're not going to cut back on the fun by any stretch of the imagination. The fun component will still be there absolutely, but in some years the rounds were 7-8 hours. We're hoping to shave it."

Rondeau and his wife Kirstin have been involved in the tournament for six years now.

"We initially got involved in the tournament as a way for us to give back to the organization," Rondeau said. "I benefitted from having scholarship money to go to the U of S before coming back to Swift Current to work at MNP. To be honest with you I've been playing in this tournament since I was 18-years-old and it has always been a highlight of my summer."

The tournament has attracted lots of sponsorship and over 30 teams leading up to Saturday's event. There is still room for a few other teams if you act quickly.
