The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan is holding its Annual General Meeting this week in Regina.

APAS President Norm Hall says they have a full agenda that will cover a variety of issues from the late harvest and crop insurance to grain transportation and the Federal carbon tax.

Hall says they started today with a panel of the Prairie Farm Leaders and then moves into other key areas of discussion:

"We've got the Provincial Ag Minister coming in to wrap up the day. We're going to deal with succession planning, better meeting management, carbon and transportation, and then resolutions.

Resolutions are always the key to any annual meeting, as far as I'm concerned, because that gives the organization direction on where to go and what's important to our membership," he said.

Hall, the 5-year APAS President, says the organization is also focusing on the next agricultural policy framework.

"All of the Governments are hoping to have a signed agreement by July of this coming year.

There's going to be more negotiations through the winter through our Provincial Government and also our membership with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture will be at the table all the time.

We just had a conversation with the Federal Minister last Thursday on this, and we'll continue to have these conversations as the winter goes along," he said.

Hall notes producers and organizations in other provinces are envious of our provincial government and their understanding and support of Agriculture.
