The Canadian Pork Council held its fall members meeting this week in Ottawa.

Chair Rick Bergmann says there were many issues discussed.

"Our focus this year was strategic planning for our organization and naturally for the farms because that's where it all starts," he commented. "Also, the Canadian Pork Excellence Program for the ability to ensure to people the quality of pork they have when they purchase Canadian pork."

He noted that Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay was in attendance, discussing key issues such as trade, NAFTA, and the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Bergmann said that the Canadian Pork Council was pleased to see the Liberals make adjustments to the tax reform plan, adding they'll be keeping a close eye on the situation.
