Saskatchewan Agriculture’s weekly crop report shows the hot, dry weather is helping to move harvest right along.

Farmers are making good progress with the harvest, so far as 45 per cent of the Provincial crop is in the bin.

That’s well ahead of the five-year average of 28 per cent.

Brent Flaten with Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Agriculture gives us an update as to where we are by what’s come in so far with each crop.

"91 per cent of the lentils are harvested, 90 per cent of the field peas, 58 per cent of the mustard, 62 per cent of durum, 51 per cent of the barley, 38 per cent of the spring wheat, and 26 per cent of the canola."

Harvest is most advanced in the southwest at 70 per cent complete, the southeast is at 60 per cent, the west-central region at 44 per cent and the east-central region at 36 per cent. The northeast is at 12 per cent while the northwest region is at 18 per cent complete.

Flaten says it’s unfortunate but there are some wrecks out there.

"You know just really low yields," Flaten said. "But also people that were expecting extremely low yields were pleasantly surprised with slightly below average yields were those crops really tacked into that soil moisture, all that soil moisture that we got last year and last fall that stalled the harvest was a blessing for this year."

Farmers are being reminded to make sure they cool the crop down to at least 15 degrees Celcius to try and avoid spoilage in the bin.
