The Swift Current 57's dropped a 10-8 decision to the Medicine Hat Mavericks on the road in the second of three straight meetings Thursday night.

The 57's jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first with Logan Stockton scoring after Logan Grant reached on an error, and Grant and Thomas Collins then came home on an RBI double by Mathew Ward. Medicine Hat then scored five runs in the second inning, including a solo home run by Nathan Ade, to take a 5-3 lead. The Mavericks scored one more run in the third before Brody Alexandre was forced in on a bases-loaded walk by Stockton in the fourth, only to have that answered by Medicine Hat in the bottom of the inning. Collins hit an RBI double to bring in Stockton in the seventh with the Mavericks scoring again in the bottom of the inning to make the score 8-5 in favour of the home side.

In the top of the eighth, Owen Stevenson hit a two-run single to bring home Hayden Cooper and Dylan Coty. Tejean Smith then cashed in Justin Barnes, who replaced Stevenson as a pinch runner, to tie the game up, but Hunter Cooper hit a two-run double to put Medicine Hat up 10-8.

Starter Brandon Byler allowed six earned runs and seven hits over 2.1 innings, and Zac Laird took the loss in relief. Nathaniel Ewing got the last nine outs to clinch the win for Medicine Hat.

The 57's (18-20) are now four games back of the idle Moose Jaw Miller Express for the East Division lead. Swift Current hosts Medicine Hat in the rubber match of their three-game set tonight at 7:05pm before they host the Millers for a double-header on Saturday.

18U 57's walk-off Diamondbacks

Meanwhile, back in Swift Current, Ethan Bailey hit a game-winning RBI single to cash in Emmit Wiebe as the 18U AAA 57's beat the Saskatoon Diamondbacks in their last home game of the regular season. Bailey also had three strikeouts as the game's starting pitcher. The 18U 57's wrap up the season with a doubleheader in Moose Jaw on Saturday.
