The Swift Current 57's had a chance to keep pace with the East Division leading Moose Jaw Miller Express, but fell 12-10 and 11-7 in two seven-inning games at Mitchell Field on Saturday.

Game one:

The Millers jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the 57's even recorded their first out of the game, with Nate Mensik, Bryan Reyes, Austin Gurney, Parker Dorrance and Hudson Barrett driving in runners on base hits, and Joe Osborn hitting a three-run home run. Patrick Tangen replaced starter Grayden Stauffer, where he then pitched 6.1 solid innings in relief as the 57's rallied back.

Thomas Collins brought home Justin Barnes on a sacrifice fly to open the scoring in the bottom of the first, then hit an RBI single to drive in Nick Chavez in the second. After Mensik hit a two-run homer for Moose Jaw in the third and Barrett hit a solo shot in the fourth, Tejean Smith hit one of his own out of Mitchell Field and Collins then scored on a ground out by Logan Grant in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, Dylan Coty hit an RBI single, Barnes hit a two-run double and later scored as Collins hit into a double play. Coty brought home Owen Stevenson on an RBI single in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to one, but in the top of the seventh, Osbourn was hit by a pitch from Zac Laird with the bases loaded to give Moose Jaw a two run cushion and an eventual 12-10 victory.

Andrew Barger allowed three earned runs over four innings to take the win on the mound and Kellan Voggesser picked up the save. Tangen was the losing pitcher for Swift Current.

Game two:

Moose Jaw put up a crooked number once again to start this game with Luke Shekeryk hitting a three-run home run in the top of the first, and then Mathew Ward brought home Tejean Smith in the bottom of the first to put the 57's on the board. After the Millers got two more runs in the top of the second, Owen Stevenson scored on a fielding error and Cory Bonstrom hit a three-run homer to tie the game up 5-5 after two.

The teams traded runs in the third, with Nick Chavez hitting an RBI double to bring home Logan Grant, but Moose Jaw would score three runs in the fifth inning and two more in the seventh. Grant came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally would be cut short as the 57's fell 11-7.

Starter Alexander Fijal struck out two batters and allowed six earned runs on five hits in two innings of work, while Dawson Schultz had four strikeouts and allowed three runs on three hits over three innings to take the loss for Swift Current. Jesse Scholtz was the winning pitcher for Moose Jaw, pitching three shutout innings and striking out two batters.

Swift Current falls to 18-23 after the two losses and are now seven games back of the Millers for first in the East Division, and are 2.5 games ahead of fourth-place Medicine Hat in the standings.

The 57's are off until Tuesday when they visit the Weyburn Beavers for a doubleheader. The two teams play another game in Weyburn on Wednesday before playing again in Swift Current on Thursday and next Sunday.
