The Swift Current Museum is hosting a special birthday next week, as one of their long-time members sees another trip around the sun.

Ranger is a bison that was taxidermized to join the museum team 71 years ago, and his celebration will take place on August 17 with a string of fun events happening throughout the day starting at 11 a.m.

Melissa Shaw is the director for the Swift Current Museum, and shared some details about what folks can expect when attending.

"We're excited to celebrate his birthday," she said. "We'll be hosting some fun activities and giving people a little bit of history about Ranger."

A bison stew and bannock lunch will be available for those that pre-register for the event, catered by the Living Sky Casino, complimented with free cupcakes and refreshments.

Kids can participate in a colouring contest, as well as enter to win their very own stuffed bison if they're a member of the Ranger's Kids Club.

The registration deadline for the birthday bash is tomorrow to ensure the casino has plenty of time to prepare for the number of attendees, and anyone wanting to get tickets can call the Swift Current Museum or visit their website.
