'For Sale' signs seem to be all over the place these days around Swift Current.

While the market is still alive and well, it's actually slightly off base from where it was this time last year.

Lanette Thoreson, the broker-owner of RE/MAX Swift Current, has some insight into the situation in Swift Current specifically.

"For summer 2022 in Swift Current we're down," said Thoreson. "The market does still feel strong."

For the region, the market is down about two per cent. In Swift Current, it's down four per cent. Not a huge fall from grace, but still down all the same. The good news is that housing prices are up for those looking to sell.

The average sale price is up to $286,000. That's 1.7 per cent from the year-to-year average. Outside the city, it's sitting at an average of $226,000.

Thoreson had some advice for those looking to max out their value and attract would-be buyers.

"Just make sure it looks good," said Thoreson. "Have good curb appeal."

Folks looking to buy a house are more likely to notice a good front yard and a clean exterior.

After the pandemic, it seems like the market is finally settling back down. The fall months should see some higher sales numbers, as they are typically better for housing sales than the summer when people are less interested in selling.

"We are still looking forward to having a strong market," said Thoreson. "People always need a place to live, so there are always buyers out there."
