One southwest Saskatchewan community that had quite the year was Shaunavon.

2011 saw the town's economy grow considerably with the expansion of the oil and gas industry, and the long-awaited completion of a major project, the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre. "I think everyone knows that's been a long-running project," said Shaunavon Mayor Sharon Dickie. "We're just so proud to have that building completed and furnished... it's just an amazing facility."

Dickie says the focus now turns on preparing for the year ahead: "All our lots are gone, our industrial park has expanded, we really see a lot of growth. Hopefully we're managing it because along with growth comes a lot of demands on infrastructure."

Shaunavon Council and administrators will continue to look at ways of accomodating growth in the community throughout 2012.
