Last week, it was travel for cattle in Saskatchewan for the Southwest Angus Tour.

The Angus tour happens every year in a different spot in Saskatchewan. This year's tour was based in the southwest corner of the province, seeing them mostly centred around the Maple Creek area.

Set up by the Saskatchewan Angus Association, the tour is designed to help cattle producers build connections. With everyone on the tour being a producer of purebred Angus beef, it's important for them to build ties amongst each other to keep their operations running for things like breeding, buying and selling.

Nikki Weiss was in charge of the tour this year, helping these farmers meet and greet along the tour.

"Hospitality," said Weiss. "We wanted to bring people out to view the livestock that we produce, have everyone enjoy their time here in the southwest, see what quality of cattle we raise and show them that they are more than welcome out here anytime."

They managed to tour eight separate ranches with their crowd, taking many producers out over the course of two days. Everything tied back up at the end of the day back in Maple Creek at the hotels in town, which they had completely booked.

The event started Wednesday night in Maple Creek with registration. Thursday morning everyone departed from Cobble Creek Lodge with two tour buses and additional vehicles.

First stop along the way was Jensen Red Angus by Leader. Afterwards, they head south again to Hawkeye Ranching Co. Ltd. From there it was time to make their way to Forbes Ranching Ltd, Bircham Ranch, and Bear Creek Angus. They capped Thursday off at Bear Creek Angus with supper, hosting around 250 people.

Friday kicked off again with everyone making their way out to Delorme's Ranch. After they finished there, they made their way to the Eastend area visiting Topham Red Angus and Outlaw Coulee Ranch. The tour ended with a bang in the Eastend community hall for supper.

"We are pretty excited about the number of people we wound up with," said Weiss. "I'm not sure if it's post-COVID we have to thank for having such a large crowd, but we got a pretty good uptaking with people from Alberta being in the far southwest corner of the province. People from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and all the way from Ontario on the tour."
