Pure Chem Bantam AA Broncos alternate captain Rylan Williams became the first local prospect to be selected in the 2020 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Draft Friday afternoon.

The 5-foot-8, 142-pound Williams was snagged by the La Ronge Ice Wolves with the eighth-overall pick in the first round.

The product of Kyle finished with the second-highest point total on the Bantam AA Broncos this season. Williams posted 30 goals and 66 points in 31 regular-season games, adding four goals and eight points in three playoff tilts.

It was a big leap in offensive production, after recording five goals and 12 points in 36 combined regular-season and playoff games as a rookie in 2018-19.

The Ice Wolves meanwhile finished the 2019-20 regular season with a 33-19-3-3 record, and were 2-2 in the post-season prior to the shutdown of the remainder of the year.

Williams also was selected in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft in the 11th round (236th overall) by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Fellow Bantam AA Broncos alternate captain Carter Herman was selected right after Williams, as the ninth-overall pick saw the defenseman nabbed by the Yorkton Terriers.

The Swift Current product led the Bantam AA Broncos' blueline unit in scoring this season.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pound blueliner recorded 13 goals and 39 points in 27 regular-season games, adding a pair of helpers in three playoff contests. Herman had five assists in 20 total games as a rookie the previous campaign.

The Terriers also own the rights to Herman's older brother, 2002-born goaltender Jacob, who made a regular-season start with the club in 2019-20.

Yorkton won the Viterra Division in the regular-season with a 35-20-2-1 record. They too were 2-2 in the playoffs prior to the pandemic.

Herman was also selected in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft, when the Regina Pats picked him 71st overall in the fourth round.
