JR Avon scored 10:54 into overtime as the Peterborough Petes knocked out the Memorial Cup host Kamloops Blazers 5-4 in last night’s tie-breaker. The Blazers held a 4-1 lead midway through the second period, but the Petes scored three unanswered goals to tie it up after 40 minutes.

The Petes will face the Seattle Thunderbirds in tonight’s semi-final with the winner moving on to Sunday’s final against the Quebec Remparts.

Gausman preserves early lead as Jays beat Brewers

Kevin Gausman pitched 6-2/3 scoreless innings as the Toronto Blue Jays picked up a 3-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon. Matt Chapman and Bo Bichette homered for the Jays in the first inning.

In the CFL pre-season on Thursday, the Ottawa Redblacks beat the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts 34-23, and the BC Lions got past the Calgary Stampeders 25-22 in Vancouver.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to wrap up their pre-season schedule tonight with Hamilton visiting Montreal in the other game. The CFL regular season opens on June 8 with the Riders playing their first game next Sunday in Edmonton.
