A pair of back-to-back collisions involving cattle and vehicles near Ernfold this morning temporarily closed eastbound lanes of Highway 1.

According to a spokesperson for Saskatchewan RCMP Keely Grasser, Morse RCMP received the first call around 2:45 a.m. when a semi struck a cow.

“When officers were on their way, they received a second call for a collision and that was for an SUV and a cow,” she said. “They were in close proximity; one was on the eastbound lanes, and one was on the westbound.”

While the semi-truck driver did not report any injuries to police, the four occupants of the SUV were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both cows, however, are deceased.

It didn’t take long for the roads to get cleaned, opening back up to traffic by 6:15 a.m. according to the Highway Hotline.
