Two Swift Current businesses made a generous gesture Tuesday morning promoting Go Green Friday.

Innovation Credit Union and Stark & Marsh combined to donate $15,000 to the City of Swift Current ahead of the 9th annual event this fall.

"It was just so great to see different community organizations come together and care about our community, it's just fantastic," said Krista Caswell Community Recreational Coordinator for the City of Swift Current. "it's always awesome when there are different community organizations that want to take part in such a great day of giving back to our community."

The initiative was created by Stark & Marsh in 2009, with a focus on giving back to the community through improving the city's green spaces by planting trees, planters and gardens.

Caswell noted that they wouldn't be able to do all the work they have done without the help from local businesses.

"Stark & Marsh does all the planning and organization of volunteers getting the day off and running," Caswell added. "With Inovation Credit Union stepping on board providing funds along with Stark & Marsh providing funds, then we're able to order the trees and shrubs and be able to have our city staff go out with all the volunteers to plant all of those trees to make our city so beautiful."

Go Green will be focusing its efforts on Summer Games locations leading up the event in 2019.

This year's event is scheduled for Friday, September 15th.
