Ethan Murdoch came off the bench to hit a go-ahead three-run home run with two out in the top of the ninth inning as the Swift Current 57's beat the Weyburn Beavers 8-5 at Tom Laing Park on Monday to snap a four-game losing streak.

The 57's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with Justin Barnes scoring Ethan Gonzales with an RBI single, and then coming home on a two-run homer by Brody Alexandre. Ryan Muizelaar scored to put Weyburn on the board in the bottom half of the inning, Trent Lawson scored on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, Ryan Dauphinee hit an RBI single in the fifth, and Robert Gurney came home on a wild pitch in the sixth to give the Beavers a 4-3 lead. Hagen Escoto scored on a bases-loaded walk to tie up the game in the seventh, but Ryan McCarthy's RBI single in the eighth helped give Weyburn a 5-4 lead heading into the ninth inning.

In the top of the ninth with Gabriel Watson on third, Braxton Haggith on second and the 57's down to their last out, Murdoch came in to pinch hit for Sean Russell and hit his fourth home run of the season to give Swift Current a 7-5 lead. Kelton Saylor then hit a single and was brought home by Ethan Gonzalez to make 8-5 for the 57's, and Kenny Jinks got the final three outs to pick up his third win of the summer.

Swift Current starting pitcher Patrick Tangen struck out six batters and allowed four earned runs on five hits over six innings. Beavers starter Owen McConnell struck out eight over six innings and Brett Paterson took the loss in relief.

The 57's (11-19) host the Beavers tonight at 7:00pm from Mitchell Field.
