Councilmember Bruce Deg has announced that he is letting his name stand in the fall's municipal election.

The incumbent is seeking a second term, saying that he's been happy with the direction that the city is going, and wants to continue to see the job through.

"I think we've got this city going in the right direction and I want to continue that. I'm proud of the relationships we've got with our partners, including our neighbours, the RMs and also with the jurisdictions that are in the community; Mental Health, Southwest Homes and those types of organizations."

An active member on a number of committees, Deg wants to continue those relationships with those non-profits like the Chinook Library Board, Watershed Stewards and Dories House; believing that those relationships are key to the growth of a city.

"I think when a community appears to be in harmony people will be attracted to it. And that's the overall goal, is to try to make our community look attractive."

One of the proudest moments from his first term was the Summer games in 2019, saying that the impact of that and other events in 2019 on the city's national presence was immeasurable.

Thinking about the next four years, Deg says that his pride in the community; its inclusiveness, its forward-thinking nature and its strong volunteer base are things that he wants to continue to foster in council if reelected.
