The former residence for many current residents of The Meadows has been sold.

In an effort to sell vacant properties, the Cypress Health Region has sold the Swift Current Care Centre building. The care centre joins the Cypress Lodge in Maple Creek as two recent transactions to members of the community.

The buyer of the property remains nameless at this time, as well as the sale price. CFO and interim-CEO Larry Allsen shares more details on the transaction, which was to a local member of the community.

"It's good that it's staying in the community. We did give them some beds that we were probably just going to put into the landfill - they were pretty excited about that. They're happy and they're looking forward to getting started," he said.

Allsen explains the buyer's purpose for the former health region property.

"They're going to repurpose it for a personal care home, which is great. It's something that's needed in Swift Current - we've been needing one of those for quite a few years. They're going to do some extensive renovations and once that gets transferred, hopefully in the next couple of months, they'll be looking to start work right away," he said.

The transition of moving residents into The Meadows finished in the fall of 2016, with the grand opening occurring on November 18th, 2016.
