The Dark Horse Theatre in Shaunavon is doing its annual ticket blitz on October 25, and the show is expected to sell out fast.

The production of Jack of Diamonds will be the inaugural show for the new theatre hall, which was formerly the Centre Street United Church. The curtains are set to be drawn on November 22, 23, 24, and 25. The performance follows a group of elderly people in a retirement home with big ambitions and nothing to lose.

Dianne Greenlay is on the Board of Directors of Dark Horse Theatre and was one of the founders of the group. For this production she is taking on the roles of co-director and set designer.

“The stage is a little bit smaller than what we're used to having, so we chose this because it is a very confined set, and it takes place all in one room,” Greenlay explained. “It's got lots of really good comedy in it... We've got a really good young cast this time, and it has been a challenge for our makeup people to make them look like the older people, but it's really going to be a full evening of entertainment.”

The ticket blitz is going to take place at the new Dark Horse Hall and run from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the price of $65 apiece. There will be a floor plan which people can reference and choose where they want to sit for whichever evening they attend.

“They have historically sold out every year that Dark Horse has been running,” said Greenlay. “I think this is our 39th year, it used to be that people wanted tickets so badly they would line up at 3:00 in the morning because we used to sell the tickets at 7:00 a.m.”

This year Darren Johnson is directing his first production for Dark Horse. Darren has been with the theatre for many years in many roles, including as a set-builder and a primary actor in many popular shows that the theatre has put on.

“We've been very lucky,” Greenlay expressed. “The people have supported us so well over the years. we're very grateful for that. I'm really hoping that folks will come out and really have a wonderful evening.”

There will also be live advertisements which local businesses are able to purchase from the theatre ahead of time. They will be performed by the cast and will last between one and three minutes.
