Although it may have seemed to rain a lot in July around the Swift Current area - especially towards the front half of the month, rainfall totals tell a different story.

According to Environment Canada data, rainfall amounts of 52.6 mm (just over 2 inches) for Swift Current were bang on what the 30-year average is.

Natalie Hazel, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change, said it rained in 11 of the 31 days during the month.

"We've had a lot of shower and thunderstorm activity," she said. "That's not an inappropriate feeling or perception"

Data from Environment Canada shows it rained seven of the first ten days of the month, but since has only rained four days out of 21.

July 2020 ranks as the 61st wettest July in Swift Current history in terms of Environment Canada's data that's been kept dating all the way back to 1886.
