Another well-known phone scam is making the rounds in the Swift Current area again.

Late last week someone in the area was contacted by a British Columbia phone number acting as Service Canada telling them, there's a warrant out for their arrest.

Upon receiving the call, the caller engaged by pressing one on his phone and it forwarded him to women asking for his social insurance number for verification purposes.

"Which was for me a red flag and I'm just like no, I'm not going to do that," the caller told Swift Current Online. "What else do you have that I can identify myself with and she gave me some long-winded thing, she sounded kind of heated. She was basically trying to convince me that this was very important I needed to do this."

The caller then kept the alleged scammer on the phone asking which province the warrant was issued, in which the women took a few minutes before finally replying with Saskatchewan.

"I asked a little bit further," the caller said. "I'm like ok since it's Saskatchewan, can I get the city in which the warrant was under? I was hoping that she would say Swift Current so I could hang up and call the police. But instead, she was just like let me look through your file. I'm like OK, this should be interesting. She then took about a few minutes on the phone and then hung up abruptly."

The caller then reached out to the City RCMP who confirmed there wasn't a warrant out and that the person needed to report it to the Fraud Busters.

The phone number of the scam caller was 604-344-2273.
