A community still mourning the loss of one of its own will come together next week to honour Private Shaun Farrell, one of four Canadian Armed Forces members killed during a training tragedy at CFB Wainwright earlier this month.

The City of Prince Albert has confirmed that a military funeral with full honours will be held Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Prince Albert Armoury, located at 17 Exhibition Drive.

The service will be open to the public, allowing residents, fellow soldiers, friends and family to pay their final respects to the 23-year-old soldier.

For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will also be livestreamed.

Remembering a soldier who fulfilled his dream

Farrell served with the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Edmonton.

He was among four soldiers who died Oct. 17 after a fast-moving fire swept through a military training area at CFB Wainwright in Alberta.

The tragedy also claimed the lives of Sgt. Morgan Wong, Pte. Aidan Goulding and Pte. Hayden Lykkemark.

Several other soldiers were injured during the incident.

Farrell, who moved to Prince Albert with his family in 2017, had dreamed of serving in the military since childhood.

His family has previously spoken about his determination to pursue that dream and the pride he took in serving his country.
