New Swift Current Broncos forward Kole Gable makes his debut at the Credit Union iPlex tonight as the Broncos host the Brandon Wheat Kings.

"It's exciting," Gable said. "I think a nice fresh start kind of a reset button will be good for me. New scenery and new team it will kind of be good for me to prove what I've got."

The Broncos added Gable from Edmonton for a conditional 7th round bantam draft pick. The 18-year-old feels like he could be a good fit in Swift Current's style of play.

"I think I come to the table with speed and skill hopefully," Gable said. "I like how they play and how they work hard. That's the type of game I want to play."

At 5'10 he isn't the biggest player on the ice and yet feels he can play a hard game.

"I like to be a little bit gritty and hard to play against," Gable noted. "I'm a smaller guy so I've got to work for my space out there. I try to bring my speed and skill around the net. Obviously I want to be a reliable guy in all three zones."

Gable was a big scorer at all levels before making it to the WHL. He had 41 points in 33 games in bantam, 51 points in 37 games in the 15-year-old midget league in Alberta and 44 points in 34 games of Midget AAA at 16-years-old. He had 11 points in 53 games as a WHL rookie with the Oil Kings last season.

"Coming in to the WHL I had to get used to not being that guy," Gable said. "Now to work from there and work my way up. You learn you've got to be opportunistic. When you get your chance you've got to go out and score. Most teams need secondary scoring. Playing minutes like third and fourth line you've got to try to score, play your game, but also try to shut down their top guys and bring energy to the table. Last year I learned I'm not going to always be the top guy so I've got to take that role and run with it."

He doesn't have any specific goals in mind in terms of scoring numbers or playing a certain role.

"I just want to come in open minded and prove I'm in this for the long haul," Gable said. "Obviously I'm new but I'd like to see this team succeed and go from there."

Swift Current plays a home and home with Brandon this week starting tonight at the Credit Union iPlex.

"I know they're a fast team," Gable said. "They're a little young too so they like to get after it and play a fast paced game. I like to worry about my game more than anything."

The Broncos have had a full week off to rest up after what had been a busy schedule. They are 10-6-2-1 compared to Brandon's 8-7-3-0 record.

"I think it's going to be a real good two game series," Viveiros said. "We're ahead of them in points and we want to stay ahead of them in points. We think it's very important we fight for that third place in our division and stay in that position."

You can hear tonight's game on The Eagle 94.1 FM with Robertson Family Group Broncos Hockey at 6:30pm. Puck drop is 7pm at the Credit Union iPlex.
