SAWYER – Gordon Barry, 79, of Dinsmore, SK passed away on March 22 in at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK. He is survived by his wife; Lynn Sawyer, daughter; Kathy Bolton (Vince Bolton), son; Mark Sawyer (Rachel Sawyer), grandchildren; Shae-Lynn Stuart (Clint Stuart), Kyla Bolton, Rhett, Liam and Jayda Sawyer, great granddaughter Maeve Stuart, and brothers; Stewart and Ken Sawyer He is preceded in death by his parents John (Jack) and Vida Sawyer. Gordon was a loyal husband, proud father (Papa to his grandchildren), passionate farmer and advocate for his community of Dinmore and surrounding area. Gordon was born on April 18, 1942, in the Dinsmore Union Hospital to Jack and Vida Sawyer. He spent the first 4 years of his life on the family farm south of Wiseton and moved to the new family farm located west of Dinsmore in 1946. Gordon went to the Dinsmore School, graduating in 1960. After graduation, Gordon worked on the family farm and took a carpentry course at Saskatchewan Technical Institute in Moose Jaw. Gordon’s lifelong occupation and passion was the family farm, operated with his dad Jack, his brother Stewart and later with his nephew Jason. Gordon filled the winter months on construction projects, mainly carpentry finishing work. Gordon and Lynn Sawyer were married on October 9, 1965, in the Dinsmore United Church. They both worked in Saskatoon briefly returning to Dinsmore to become part of the family farm. They moved into the house that became their home for the next 54 years, until 2020. Their two children, Kathy and Mark were born and raised in Dinsmore. Gordon was an avid supporter of his children’s activities and continued to support community sports, particularly the local hockey teams. Later in life, Gordon was enamoured with his five grandchildren. He enjoyed countless hours spending time with them, travelling to support them in their pursuits and activities. Gordon was also active in multiple community organizations, notably serving with Dinsmore Kinsmen, Town Council, Hospital Board and Hall Board. For his entire life, Gordon was part of the fabric of the Dinsmore community, an advocate for the small town and family farm.
